Being a pet parent can be a messy job. On any given day, you could find yourself on your hands and knees scrubbing away at carpet stains or investing money in ruined shoes or furniture. And while there are plenty of cleaning and deterrent products on the market, almost none of them are truly safe for you or your pet.
And since you’re here, we already know you care a lot about what you put in and on your pet. At Health Extension, we believe that everything you present to your pet should be safe and all-natural. So, you may be wondering what the best natural pet cleaning products on the market are. Not only do these formulas have to be effective, but ideally, they should also be non-toxic. However, that’s easier said than done.
The truth is that most cleaning products are harmful in some way to us and our pets. Believe it or not, almost all cleaning products on the market today pose some sort of risk to our health – and an even greater risk to our pets, who come in contact with the cleaning products we use on our floors and carpets, as well as deodorizers (and more).
Did you know that cleaning products with ingredients such as bleach, ammonia, chlorine, glycol ethers or formaldehyde can put pets at risk for cancer, anemia, and organ damage? According to US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) studies, the level of air pollution inside the home may be two to five times, and sometimes more than 100 times higher than outdoor air pollution. Why? Because of household cleaning products. Here are some of the effects that cleaning products can have on your dog’s health:
- Respiratory Irritation
- Skin Irritation/Burning
- Burning Mouth/Throat
- Burning Eyes
- Cancer
- Digestive Issues
- Organ Damage
The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has published many guides on safe products, from household cleaners to personal care products, produce and more. To see their list of verified household cleaning products which meet their strict standards, visit this link. FYI: there are only 14 products that made the list!
That’s why Health Extension went on a mission to create the “cleanest” pet cleaning products on the market. Our cleaning products are made with 100% all-natural ingredients, using natural enzymes to eliminate stains, odors and care for your pet’s needs. We formulate our products using some of nature’s most healthful essential oils and extracts, including cinnamon, sassafras, citronella, eucalyptus, lemongrass, tea tree, cloverleaf, sage, fennel and ginger.
Here is a list of natural pet cleaning products verified by the Health Extension pros!
All-Natural Carpet, Stain and Odor Cleaner
Your pet is going to have accidents – whether by mistake or with intention! Either way, your priority will be to get the mess cleaned up so you, and your dog, forget it even happened. Our Eliminate: Natural Cleaner is the best pet cleaning product on the market because of its effectiveness and list of all-natural, non-toxic ingredients.
Use this product to safely clean carpets, upholstery, bedding, tile, vinyl and more. Our “Eliminate” solution not only cleans, but helps truly eradicate the scent to prevent your pet from leaving scent markers – reducing the inclination to re-target that area. Feel comfortable and confident using this formula to clean and cleanse even the messiest of stains from your household things without worrying about any adverse side-effects or irritants.
All-Natural Pet Deterrent Spray
Sure, pets have accidents. But depending on their age or temperament, they may be trying to tell you something by soiling the same patch of carpet or flooring again and again. If this is the case, you can help prevent future “accidents” by using our all-natural Pet Deterrent Spray. Our Pet Deterrent Spray is formulated with a blend of botanical ingredients which are delightful to the human nose, but deterring to your pet’s! This spray, using a blend of natural essential oils, can be used safely throughout the house and around children because of our all-natural formulation.
Do you want to keep your pet out of a certain area? Our Pet Deterrent Spray is the ideal solution to keep pets uninterested in a specific zone of the home, or discouraged from entering it altogether – such as a child’s room. Pet Deterrent Spray is a great solution to keep pets away from things like household plants, patio furniture, shoes or the garbage pail by creating an invisible blockade. Simply spray our Pet Deterrent Spray at the doorway of forbidden rooms, or at the base of flower beds, for example, to discourage your pet from investigating any “no-go zones!”
All-Natural Anti-Chew Pet Spray
Our “Problem Chewers” spray is an even more targeted pet deterrent formula that is actually used ON (versus around) your household valuables such as furniture and shoes, for example. We formulated this spray to be used for growing dogs who are still learning what is and is not off limits. Using three active bittering agents, this all-natural spray will discourage your dog from chewing or licking anything that has a light, protective coating of our anti-chew spray on it.
Our Problem Chewers spray is meant to be used for just a short time before your pet “learns” not to chew, bite or lick the area in question. Simply spray the area twice daily for one week, and then once daily during week 2. Most pets learn after this short time not to fixate on the area in question.
All-Natural Pet Housebreaking Aid
In contrast to our deterrent sprays, the Health Extension Housebreaking Aid is designed to attract your pet TO an area of your home! We formulated this product to be used specifically on potty/wee-wee pads during the puppy phase of growth. Especially for pets who live in apartments or who wish to eliminate on an indoor pad, this spray is ideal for housebreaking.
But the best part is that pet parents can use this tool to help their pet learn how to eliminate outdoors as well! Simply begin using our Housebreaking Aid outdoors in the area where you wish for your pet to eliminate around and watch them gravitate to this zone. Soon, your pet will naturally seek out this area to “do their business” and you will be on your way to having a happy, healthy, well-behaved hound!

How to Make New Habits “Stick”
As we have covered in our Housetraining Guide, the best way to help your dog achieve desired behaviors is to utilize the three P’s: patience, persistence and positive reinforcement. Dogs learn best when you reward them for good behavior, not scold them for the bad. So, while utilizing all-natural cleaning and pet deterrent products will help prevent repeat behavior, it may not stop it. Being an active participant in your dog’s behavioral changes is paramount. When your dog performs the right behavior, for instance, eliminating outdoors, praise them with a treat. Your dog will begin associating this ritual with a reward and will be more likely to keep up the “good behavior”. To shop our selection of all-natural dog treats, visit this page.
